Got your attention, didn’t I?
So now we have the latest government takeover of a major company. First it’s the banks and now it’s the auto industry. GM and Chrysler. Will Ford be next?
Ok, here’s the question. I’m not trying to propose a conspiracy theory, but let me ask it this way. If after the takeover, which was by the commonly known strong arm tactics of the Obama administration (remind anyone of Chicago machine politics?) the ownership of Chrysler is now over 50% in the hands of the UAW. That means that the union is in total control of Chrysler. A little like the fox being in ownership of the hen house in my estimation but that’s another story. What does union ownership of your job mean to you as an employee?
Let’s look at GM now. By the time it’s all said and done, the UAW will own that one as well. So that’s two out of three. Will Ford follow? My guess is yes at some point in time. For right now they’ve kept themselves out of the mess by not letting the government put its hands into their pockets, but who knows how long it will be before some sort of strong arm tactics are applied there as well. Perhaps through the UAW. Hey, if they own Chrysler and GM why shouldn’t they own Ford?
If the auto industry is now all union owned, why not the banks? Non union? Remember “card check?” That’s coming. It’s called by it’s official name of “Employee Free Choice” but we know what that really means. If the unions can take over the banking industry as well, does anyone think they will be satisfied and say, “we have enough”? Fat chance. The healthcare industry is in their sights as well. No surprise there considering this administration’s stated aims for that industry. I’m not trying to make an anti-union point here. This is outside of that argument.
Let’s project this out to the long term. What happens when every industry becomes unionized? By itself, that would not be all that significant. Except for the new twist that means not only are the industries unionized but now they are owned by and thus run by the unions.
Let’s look at it from an employee standpoint. How do you get a job with a union run company? One way only. You must become a member of the union. It matters not if you disagree with the union, it’s policies, politics or whatever. It matters not what your skills or qualifications are for getting a job. It only matters if you are a union member. So if you are a union member, you can get a job. If you are not a union member, you can not get a job. If you choose not to join for whatever reason, even if for reasons of conscious or religious conviction, you’re up the proverbial creek, as they say.
He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. (Rev 13:16-17 NIV)
Now I’m not making any sort of correlation here. I’m just asking………. Just thinking out loud.
